Gua Bao, also known as pork belly buns, or just Bao, are the chinese equivalent of tacos. This recipe is just for the dough as there are too many possible combinations to choose the best. After trying many different recipes both from famous chefs and bloggers. The Living Recipe team has come up with this one that works best for us as home cooks. Once you have the buns made you can fill them up with whatever your heart desires. The classic is a rich braised pork belly with fresh herbs or pickled veggies. Follow the same general guidelines you would for small street tacos and you can fill it with whatever. We go with a rich savory meat, a bright vegetable topping(something pickled usually) and then a flavorful sauce to bring it together.
